Fabric Care Guide: Cotton / Jersey (Stretchy)
🌟 What is Cotton/Jersey?
Cotton/Jersey is a soft, breathable, and stretchy knit fabric made from cotton fibres. The stretch and durability make it a perfect choice for casual, everyday wear like t-shirts, dresses, and activewear. Its natural cotton fibres provide comfort, while the knit structure offers flexibility and shape retention.
Care Philosophy: Wear More, Wash Less
Cotton/Jersey garments don’t need frequent washing. Let them air out between wears to reduce washing frequency, which helps maintain the fabric’s elasticity and prolongs its lifespan.
Washing Instructions
- Cold Wash Recommended: Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent to preserve the stretch and colour.
- Turn Inside Out: Protect the outer surface from pilling or fading by washing the garment inside out.
- Avoid Overloading: Wash with similar fabrics to prevent snagging or excessive friction.
Drying Instructions
- Air Dry is Best: Lay flat or hang to dry in a shaded area to maintain elasticity and avoid shrinkage.
- Low Heat Tumble Dry (Optional): If tumble drying, use a low heat setting to minimise fabric wear.
Ironing Instructions
- Low to Medium Heat: Use a low to medium heat setting and press lightly to avoid flattening the stretch. Steam can help with stubborn wrinkles.
- Avoid Over-Stretching: Do not tug or stretch the garment while ironing.
Storage Tips
- Fold, Don’t Hang: Fold garments to prevent stretching over time. If hanging, use padded hangers to maintain shape.
- Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Avoid moisture to prevent mould or mildew.
Caution
- Avoid Bleach: Harsh chemicals weaken the fibres and discolour the fabric.
- Stretch Gently: Be cautious when pulling the fabric to prevent permanent distortion.
By taking care of your Cotton/Jersey garments, you’ll enjoy their comfort, stretch, and softness for many wears to come! 😊
